It is taken according to the doctor's instructions, preferably with or after food to reduce stomach upset.

Side effects:

Vitamin B12 malabsorption

Nausea

Loss of appetite

Diarrhea

Warnings:

Creatinine levels in the blood must be monitored (because metformin is excreted through the kidneys).

It should be stopped before undergoing tests that require iodine-containing dyes, and it should not be resumed until 48 hours later.

It is not used in cases of heart failure.
